How it Works

Dream and Write

In Dream and Write, we first Scott will open to mindfulness with a Yoga Nidra practice (relaxing guided meditation). Then, we write to the raw experience of that Awareness. After a break, Nan sparks creativity and inspiration with a poem and invites a timed free-write. After, you may read your words to the group. There are no edits, critique, or praise, only a "Thank you." It's a beautiful, inspiring, and soul-expanding practice.

Format

This workshop will be held online via a learning and meeting platform. For this workshop you will need an internet connection, and a device such as laptop, desktop computer, or smart phone to join our session. Once you register, you will receive a link and simple instructions to join the session. Once you join, you'll see the other participants on the screen and everyone can see and hear everyone else. 

Other items you'll need: a simple notebook, a free-flowing pen,  and comfortable spot to lie down with a  pillow, blanket. A yoga mat is helpful but not necessary.

We will have the distinct pleasure of welcoming Anders Carlson-Wee as our live poet of this event.

Join Vicki Overfelt and Scott Moore in beautiful northern Spain for a 5-day silent meditation retreat. The retreat will be held at the tranquil and pristine Centro Punta de Couso, an oasis of quiet tucked against the coast of the Atlantic Ocean

Guests will arrive and get settled on a Tuesday and the retreat will begin the following day and finish on Sunday.

Our intention for this retreat is to offer each participant a supportive environment in which to practice extended periods of silence and mindfulness practice. Over the course of 5 days, we will come together in silence to formally practice mindfulness through sitting and walking meditation, yoga, the body scan and other contemplative exercises. We will also incorporate walks in nature, deep rest, and nourishing food. Participants will also have the opportunity for one-on-one interviews with the teachers to discuss their personal practice and the experience of the retreat. I've invited Perry Lane to come and film the class and it will act as an audition video for getting yoga gigs in NYC, as well as a great keep sake for myself. He describes Yoga as “a beautiful vehicle that directs me toward spirituality, mindfulness, and health.” He enjoys teaching Vinyasa, Hatha, Power, Restore, Mindfulness, and Yoga Nidra.

Aikido: Philippe Wyffels
Philippe is the chief instructor for Aikido of Salt Lake. He has trained in Aikido for more than 25 years. A native of Brussels, Belgium, Philippe began his training in Brazil under Roberto Maruyama Sensei (7th degree black belt) of the Maruyama Institute of Aikido and was awarded his yondan (4th degree black belt) from Maruyama Sensei in March 2016.

Aikido: Gerry Carpenter
Gerry began training Aikido at Salt Lake Aikikai in 2009 under David Iannucci, Richard Sano, and Philippe Wyffels. He was awarded his shodan (1st degree black belt) by Masayuki Yamane Shihan (7th degree black belt) of Sakura Aikikai in Japan in May 2014. He received his nidan (2nd dan) in Salt Lake City in March 2016 from Roberto Maruyama Sensei.

Please join me for a spectacular, fun, and profound experience in the wilderness of the Uninta Mountains as we embark on my next Fall Yoga Retreat in Woodland, Utah. From Friday night until Sunday afternoon, October 2-4, we will delve deep into the art and practice of yoga, as we move, meditate, breathe, laugh, and drink in the incredible outer and inner landscapes.

The retreat begins before we arrive. We will begin to set in motion our own profound teachings as we contemplate why we have chosen to come. Is there a part of you that wants to learn more deeply about YOU ? Do you need a few days away from a busy life? Are you looking for insight, direction, or healing? As we travel the 55 mintues to Wolf Creek Outpost, the city and our busyness and troubles will begin to fade into the rear-view. We'll pull up to our weekend mountain paradise as three of the most friendly dogs you'll meet will greet you with loves and kisses. You'll find your Adirondack chair on the porch overlooking the resplendent panoply of fall colors and suddenly things will begin to make sense.

Over the next few days you will meet a few choice friends, friends you haven't met yet. We will eat and laugh together; breathe, meditate, and move, together.

I'm thrilled to begin this series again! Join us on Tuesdays from 1:30-2:30 pm at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts on the campus of the University of Utah starting September 15 (except on Oct. 6 for fall break).

Experience the art of yoga. This is a fun and engaging way to engage art through the practice of yoga. We will use themes like Transformation, The Mask, and Awareness: Seeing Like And Artist, as a way of understanding yoga, art, and the human experience. This will be an active but all-levels yoga class that will meet in the great room of the museum and will include a brief discussion followed by a wonderful yoga practice that will help you feel incredible in body, clear in your mind, and open in your heart. Then, you can use theguides on our theme to move through the museum to see how these themes are portrayed in art
