What's Happening

I hope your Sunday is starting well and that you're beginning a beautifully restful day.

About a week ago, I returned to Nice, France from a really wonderful work trip to the States. I loved being back in the states hosting a Yoga Nidra training as well as other classes, projects, and workshops as well as spending time with my twin brother and friends.

That said, I’m still working through the jet lag. Mon Dieu!

I wanted to jot off a quick note to keep you au currant of one or two things that are happening TODAY and also about some beautiful adventures going down this summer which I hope you’ll seriously consider joining.

Lately, I’ve had many students ask me where they can join my classes online and whether or not I'm planning any retreats this summer.

Here are a few options you may consider …

Gentle Yoga and Meditation: A Foundation for Wellness
While I was in the States I had the pleasure of filming a gentle yoga and Yoga Nidra class with one of my favorite yoga studios in NYC, Kula Yoga Project. This was a particular pleasure for me because I resonate deeply with Kula Yoga and the founders Schuyler Grant and Nikki Vilella have been very influential. The class I filmed is a 65-minute class called Gentle Yoga and and Meditation: A Foundation for Wellness. We start seated on the mat and basically stay on the mat as we explore an intelligent seated yoga sequence of mobilization and stretching along with breathing exercises before landing in a luxurious Yoga Nidra practice. If you’d like to take this class, Kula will be offering this today, Sun. March 27th at 10 am Eastern (7 am Pacific, 8 am Mountain, 9 am Central, 3 pm UK, 4 pm Central European). I loved teaching this class and Kula does a great job filming classes. Check it out!

Weekly Yoga Nidra Class
Next, today I’ll be hosting my weekly Yoga Nidra class at 9 am Mountain (8 am Pacific, 10 am Central, 11 am Eastern, 4 pm UK, and 5 pm Central European). Each week we explore a theme related to Waking Up with the Yoga of Sleep. We explore what it means to wake up to your ultimate potential through this relaxing and illuminating practice of Yoga Nidra. Today, we’ll explore the idea of disentangling yourself from your ego so you can realize your true identity as Awareness which empowers you to remarry your every-day life in a way that turns the colors of your life up to 11. As always, we’ll do a few gentle poses and some breathing exercises before we settle into a nice and extended Yoga Nidra practice. Each participant will get access to both the live class as well as the replay. You can either pay for a drop-in, buy a pass, begin your monthly subscription.

Yoga Retreat in Bordeaux of Tuscany This Summer
Lastly, never before in the last 2 years has traveling to Europe been so accessible. Yes, Covid still lingers and the crisis happening in Ukraine is worrisome, yet despite all of that, travel is still the easiest it's been in a long time. Perhaps this is the year to join me for one of my European yoga adventures, either to Bordeaux, France (June 5–11), or to Tuscany, Italy (October 8–15). I've even planned extra days to tack onto the retreat in case you want to join me for some spectacular walking tours through some of Europe's most historic and beautiful cities, Paris and Florence, respectively.

In truth, I already sold out retreats to both Bordeaux and Tuscany so I booked additional dates to both locations. Currently, there are still spots in each retreat but they are expected to fill up so please grab your bestie and make your deposit to reserve your spot. Airfare prices may go up soon so you might want to book your spot soon. I'd love to have you join me!

So, whatever you may or may not have planned for today, I hope you have a wonderful Sunday! If it works for you to connect with me for my class with Kula, my weekly Yoga Nidra class, or for a retreat this summer, I'd be absolutely thrilled.

Yoga: What I Learned Teaching in New York

Yoga Worries/Revelations

Pure Yoga New York

A year ago, I moved to New York City, having spent the previous 15 years successfully making my entire living teaching yoga in Salt Lake City. Honestly, I worried whether or not by moving to such a big town I'd drown in a sea of amazing yoga teachers and be forgotten and have to go and wait tables.

Well, that didn't happen. On the contrary, I was able to land auditions and teaching gigs at some of the best yoga studios in New York and was completely delighted by my experience teaching yoga in New York. Even though my wife and I decided that New York isn't our forever place, my year there helped me to discover a few  essential things about teaching, things which I think you might be interested in.

So, there are 8.5 million people in New York and it seems that every other person in New York is a yoga teacher. And while NYC has a lot of yoga teachers, I found that they aren't all good or very experienced teachers. And what I mean by a "good" teacher is one who is nuanced, ones who stands out, is original, and who has a lot of experience teaching anything other than a generic vinyasa flow class.

Don't get me wrong, there were still a ton of extraordinary teachers in New York and one of the things that helped me stand out from other teachers and land some of those great teaching gigs was my ability to teach Yoga Nidra.

Standing Out

If you don’t know about Yoga Nidra, it’s a form of guided meditation that helps people reach profound levels of relaxation and awareness. It's very healing and illuminating. People love it because it's as profound as it is relaxing, anybody can do it, and people often get great mind-blowing results, from their very first session.

Yoga Nidra is a bit of a niche practice but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how popular Yoga Nidra has become. Both in Salt Lake and New York, Yoga Nidra is always one of my greatest attended regular classes.

I’ve spent the last 10 years studying and teaching Yoga Nidra, and it's truly changed/revealed who I am  as a person and as a teacher. I hope you can tell how passionate I am about it. While receiving Yoga Nidra is relaxing and easy, teaching it can be very complex. I'd love to share my decade of experience teaching Yoga Nidra with you.

Offerings

20-Hr. Yoga Nidra Immersion

Virtual or In-Person July 20–22 2018

While I’m in Salt Lake City for a few months, besides offering classes, privates, retreats, and trainings, I'm offering a 20-hr. Yoga Nidra Immersion (July 20–22). This Yoga Nidra immersion is a unique opportunity to learn about your own deep True Nature, as well as to learn how to teach Yoga Nidra, both to a group and in one-on-one sessions, which are conducted quite differently. You’ll get a certification with this training and it will count as continuing education hours with Yoga Alliance. Plus, you’ll be able to develop a skill that will immensely benefit your students, help you gain more students, and distinguish yourself from other yoga teachers, no matter where you teach. Yoga Nidra is also a great way to develop a robust online presence.

Besides teaching Yoga Nidra, New York taught me volumes about teaching in general and specifically my own teaching. I’m much more prepared to teach on a larger scale than before and I’m excited about new ways in which I’m growing as a teacher.

One thing I practiced and refined was how to get into some of the best yoga studios in the country. In my Yoga Teacher Mentor Program curriculum, I offer a proven strategy to get hired at the studio you want to teach at. It had been a while since I needed to "bust in" to a studio, and have never needed to audition to teach, but I followed my own strategy to get in and it worked like a charm. Of course I brought my best teaching to the audition, but with so many yoga teachers in NYC, even getting an audition is nearly impossible. My strategy to get hooked up with good studios even helped me to network with some of the best studios in the country outside of NYC, including making introductions to people who are running national yoga festivals

Even though not every NYC yoga teacher is fabulous, there are still plenty of really incredible teachers, many of whom I could learn from for the rest of my days. And there are enough great teachers in NYC such that I knew I had to bring my A-game to every class; there's no way I could phone it in.

Yoga Teacher Mentor Program

To ensure I was offering my best, I had to look at  many of the ways that my teaching had become stale or rote. Man, that's hard to do! As a teacher, I think it's hard to see the ways we've become stale because we think it's just the way we teach, or think that our way of teaching is a best practice of teaching. I was very fortunate to get some spot on feedback about my teaching from a nationally renowned teacher, feedback that helped me improve my teaching immensely. I began experimenting and tweeking small things about my teaching which made a big difference in the way my students received my teaching and what I felt of as my role as the teacher.

If you are interested in really refining your practice of teaching, learning how to reach more students, or make a career from teaching yoga, I’d love to talk to you about my Yoga Teacher Mentor Program. This is a one-on-one mentorship where together, we develop a very personalized curriculum as we discover your talents and leverage them into helping you become an even more extraordinary teacher, making the kind of money you deserve. This mentor program pays for itself as new opportunities arise from the knowledge and experience you gain from this program. Plus, if you register for the Mentor Program, you’ll get the 20-hr. Yoga Nidra Immersion for free.

Wherever your life takes you, may you always teach yoga and may you always strive to bring your A-game. The world truly needs what only you have to offer.

What are the ways in which you are growing as a teacher or know you need to grow as a teacher? Leave a comment!

Namaste,

Scott

Mindful-Mojo for 2018

New Years Resolutions 2018

Friends,

It's 2018, we made it!!

2017 was quite a year . . . (let me catch my breath)!

A few big events that stand out for me were:

  • Moving to New York (that was a big one)

  • Co-raising a 2-year-old (that's an even bigger one)

  • Learning to be a yoga teacher in NYC and learning how to take my yoga online

  • Some incredible yoga retreats, including my San Francisco Yoga Tour, Dream & Write with Nan Seymour in Idaho.

  • Mentoring some incredible yoga teachers

  • Co-teaching a Restore Yoga Immersion

  • An incredible vacation to London

  • A wonderful trip to D.C.

  • Some great writing opportunities, including writing with Conscious Life News, regarded as one of the top 3 consciously-minded online journals on the web, as well as having my blog considered for the top 25 yoga blogs in the country by Thoroughly Reviewed.

But that was so 2017 . . .

2018 is going to be really, really good for me, I can feel it, and I feel like 2018 is also going to be good for you, full of possibilities and opportunities. And with a little mindful-mojo, you and I can shape this year to be our best year yet.

There is immense power at the beginning of any year. There's energy to create and build, there's power of clarity and insight, and there's a determination to continue moving forward, driven by hope and the human spirit of growth and evolution.

Open your body, mind, and spirit to untold possibilities in 2018!

Like I mentioned last week in my message about The Cosmic Taco, there's untold power in simply knowing what you want, even if you're not sure how to get there.

A mentor once told me, "First, figure out what you want, then you'll figure out how you'll do it." Both understanding what you want and setting the intentions for possibilities in the new year takes practice.

So, I've created a special Yoga Nidra practice designed to help you sow the seeds of intention deep within in your mind and heart. Visualization is very effective for outcomes and performance because if you can see it, you can achieve it.

This recording will help you become very relaxed, while helping you to define what amazing things you want for yourself in this new year and then visualize what your life is going to look like when this thing happens.

Get ready to rock and roll because it's going to be good!

The meditation is about 31 minutes long, so plan on setting aside just a little bit of time take care of yourself in this way.

I invite you to do it today. What are you doing right now? Can you give yourself the next 31 minutes to set in motion an incredible year?

Don't worry if you fall asleep, the part of you that I'm speaking to is still paying attention. Plus you can always do it again, refining your vision and intentions.

I've made two versions, one with background music, and one without. I like the one with the music (a drone) in the background. It's light and nice. You can stream or download them by clicking the buttons below.

Please share it with anyone you can think of. Consider practicing it regularly, maybe daily for a week or so, then at least once or twice a week after that. Come back to it regularly to keep your mind and heart honed to your forward motion of 2018. Then, tell me about it. I'd love to hear what happens as you do this practice.

Speaking of what's to come, SOMETHING AWESOME THIS WAY COMES. In January, I'll be unveiling something that has everything to do with understanding and sourcing your gifts to be an extraordinary presence in this world. Stay tuned . . .

Lastly, I love hearing from you! If you have literally 60 seconds, would you mind replying to this email and telling me two things:
1. Why do you practice yoga and or meditation?
2. What do you feel you need most in your life?

Happy New Year!
Tell me how the New Year Yoga Nidra goes

Namaste
